Friends, the Cook the Books Challenge for 2013 has begun! Meg and I told you about it last week. Well, I told you about it a lot, as I wassailed through the Christmas season. Click here and here to read our introductions. You will NOT be disappointed.
Well, Christmas is over, so let’s do that New Year’s thing where we all plan to do tons of stuff to make ourselves better people!
But, this time, it’s fun! No pledges to join the gym, to finally write the great american novel, to start liking opera or Downton Abbey, or to drop ten pounds. Though, we all discussed it, and you really should do all those things.
No! The Cook the Books Challenge is about getting and using some of the best cookbooks of the last ten years or so. Or, at least we think they are the best, and we discussed this shit for hours over various and sundry drinks, so we’re probably not wrong. Cook the Books is about cooking your way through those books! And then, and here’s the fun part, Cook the Books is about joining in with us and others in a big ol’ virtual cookbook club. Share what you made! Learn what you wanna make next! Post hilarious pictures and possibly some off color jokes! Cook more and better!
We picked the cookbook for January and it is awesome. And heavy to carry on flights cross country! True story!
We chose Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table: More Than 300 Recipes From My Home to Yours. Meg posted an introduction to this book today, and shares all the deets you’ll need to join up. Check it out!
If you wanna blog along, leave a comment here or at her blog, or email us at cookthebookschallenge@gmail.com so we can make sure we don’t miss your post. See it’s all official like, with an email address and everything! Impressive. If you don’t have a blog, why the hell don’t you? Even your grandma has a blog these days. Oh, she didn’t tell you? Sorry. But if you still don’t wanna be the proud owner of a blog, cook along anyway and join us in the comments. Tell us what you made and how it went! Read Meg’s post for important dates!
Meg and I will be cooking from this book and posting about our exploits throughout the month, so stay tuned. Though, how the hell I’m gonna narrow down what I want to make from this amazing book, I’m not sure.
Oh, and I finally made a Facebook page for this blog. Like it if you’re so inclined!
I was clicking around, looking for reviews of Dorie’s Shrimp with Cellophane Noodles and found your cookbook challenge. It’s like French Fridays with Dorie on fast forward! (It’s going to take us six years to work our way through the book.) Nice job on your month’s efforts. You really hit some of the highlights of this great cookbook.
Hey Teresa! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your compliments! Yeah, I heard about French Fridays with Dorie. It sounds so fun, and the book is such a gold mine of great recipes. I have a lot of pages bookmarked in her book to make this spring and summer, when the right produce comes along. Does French Fridays with Dorie leave you with any time to join our cookbook challenge for the year? We’re doing dumplings next! And lots of other fun books in store for the rest of the year!
